The results are in, for our preschool class that is! Mitt Romney Wins! We have been learning all about the presidential election, the candidates, and the election process. We had our very own voting booth and ballots. We discussed the democratic and republican issues and in the end elected who we thought should be the next President of the United States.
This Blog is designed to give new and fresh ideas to other preschool and kindergarten teachers. As teachers we know our best ideas come from each other!

Halloween was SPOOKTACULAR!
Another fun Halloween week in the classroom! Dramatic play had a fun house where the students would trick or treat. Math was adding, estimating, and sorting pumpkins! And of course art was full of fun projects. This year we took glass mason jars and modge podged tissue paper over the jar to make pumpkins, Frankensteins, and mummys. A few of our moms came in on Halloween and transformed pumpkins into witches. So much fun!

Transportation Week
Red means stop, Green means go, and Yellow means really, really slow!! Honk, Honk, Beep, Beep, we had a great week learning all about what makes us go from here to there! We made boats, airplanes, and of course all our traffic signs. We also had a visit from one of our own classroom dads. He owns his own trucking company so he stopped by for a visit too! We also had our transportation celebration and our sailboat races! Another fun week in the classroom.

Western Week
This week was Western Week in the classroom! Our room was full of cowboys and cowgirls learning all about the Wild West! We made vests out of paper bags, we made a cowboy glyph, our very own western book, and we even brought the Tulsa State Fair to our classroom. Each child made an exhibit and it was judged by an official state fair judge, the best news was that each child walked away with a blue ribbon!

Nursery Rhymes
One of our favorite units of studies, and the students agree, is our Nursery Rhyme Unit. Did you know that research has shown if a child memorizes Nursery Rhymes in their early childhood years, that it will increase their reading abilities in later years? We have lots of fun making our Nursery Rhyme books, doing our Nursery Rhyme art, and yes even conducting Nursery Rhyme Science experiments.
A candle needs oxygen to burn! We show the students what happens when we put a glass jar over a candle. |
In math we measure items in the classroom with dog bones! We teach estimation through this activity too! |

It's Back to School Again!
It is that time of year again! Back to school for Excel. Every year our first day of school means a gingerbread hunt for our students. This year was no different. The students help us make gingerbread men and we put them in the oven to bake before we go to recess...and what do you know, when we come back from recess, they are gone! We search the entire school meeting our Director, Associate Director, Secretary, and Custodian trying to find the sneaky guy. The gingerbread man leaves clues and treats along the way. This is a great way to start the first day of school!
We also gave each student "Ready Confetti."
They are supposed to place a little confetti under their pillow the night before the first day of school and it will make them have the BEST first day! And it worked! We had a great start to our new year!
Our Birthday Board |
We practice writing our names in the Writing Center. |
At our open house we have a list for the parents and the students to check off all the different stations and activities they need to complete before leaving. This not only helps the parents but it also helps us too! We also love to give the students a treat before they leave. This year we handed out pop rocks, the students really liked it.
